Summer Home Security Tips

Summer Home Security Tips

Summer is a time to be alive, with outdoor activities and vacations on everyone’s mind. However, home invaders and burglars do not take time off and summer is a season when they reap significant rewards for their crimes. Stay ahead of their game by investing in your home security over the summer. This article brought to you by Locksmith Management is going to go over some ways you can place an extra layer of protection on your property. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to hire a qualified locksmith, then do not hesitate to call Locksmith Management. Our locksmiths are available for emergency dispatches and always happy to help.

Start with The Basics

Let’s start with the obvious tips. It is worth mentioning these because homeowners can forget. We are all human, after all. For beginners, make sure your windows and doors are locked. Go through each room and double check the locks on the windows. Now is the time to replace any locks that are damaged, corroded, rust, or otherwise dysfunctional. When checking the doors, do not forget that the garage door is a major potential weak link. It is a good idea to zip-tie the emergency release handle as burglars can access this handle with some makeshift tools. Also take some time to move personal items inside. Burglars know those ladders, hoses, chairs, and other small items can add up!

Set Your Alarms

Make sure that your home security is functional and activated. It can be easy to forget to set the alarm when you are in a rush of excitement. If you can, consider investing in motion sensor lights as well. If these systems are out of your budget, then place a sign saying that the property is under surveillance – even though it’s actually not. These systems can fight off burglars and intruders by instilling in them the fear of getting caught.

Make It Seem Like You Are Home

The reason many burglaries happen during the summer months is because intruders take advantage of empty and vulnerable properties. If you are going on vacation, avoid letting the world know. We advise that you do not share your vacation plans on social media because this can give potential thieves an idea. It is also a good idea to make it seem like you are home. Keep a hallway or room light open, turn off your mail service, mow your lawn and schedule to have it mowed while you are away, and ask your neighbor to park their car in your driveway while you are away. These simple measures will give the appearance that someone is home and will help deter potential criminals.
